Video processing

Video processing techniques are used in video codecs, video players and other devices. For example—commonly only design and video processing is different in TV sets of different manufactures.

In terms of video codecs video filters are divided into three parts:

Prefilters: used before encoding
Intrafilters: inside of codec
Postfilters: used after decoding

Common prefilters are following:

Video denoising,
Size conversion (commonly downsampling)
Contrast enhancement
Deinterlacing
Deflicking, etc.

As intrafilter in current standards only deblocking is used.

Common postfilters are following:

Deinterlacing (to show on Plasma, LCD and monitors)
Deblocking
Deringing
