The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), also known as the North Atlantic Alliance, the Atlantic Alliance or the Western Alliance, is an international organisation for collective security established in 1949, in support of the North Atlantic Treaty signed in Washington, DC, on 4 April 1949. Its headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium. Its other official name is the French equivalent, l'Organisation du Traité de l'Atlantique Nord (OTAN).

International Security Assistance Force (10) (ISAF) is the name of a NATO-led security and development mission in Afghanistan, which consists of about 35,500 personnel as of May 31, 2007. Thirty-seven different nations have contributed troops to this military force, including contributions from North America, Europe and Australia.

Bantz John Craddock (born 1950), a General in the United States Army, is the current Commander, U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) for NATO and the commanding officer of Allied Command Operations (ACO).
