NARS is a professional cosmetics and skin care company founded by make-up artist and professional photographer François Nars.

François Nars was born in the south of France and attended the Carita Makeup School in Paris. He moved to New York City in 1984 to begin work in fashion publications.

The cosmetics line began with twelve lipsticks sold at Barneys New York. Since then, NARS have created various multi-use beauty products. The minimalist packaging was created by Fabien Baron and has been hailed as a modern design icon.[citation needed]

In the United Kingdom, Nars products are sold in upmarket department stores such has Harvey Nichols and Selfridges and is a brand favorite of Madonna and Victoria Beckham.
