The Motorcycle racing Portal

Motorcycle racing is a broad field that encompasses all racing aspects of motorcycling.

The FIM is the international sanctioning body for motorcycle racing and most nations have their own governing bodies. Other breakaway/independent bodies exist on both a national and an international level.

Motorcycles vary greatly in design for each discipline. Broadly speaking, motorcycle racing can be divided into two categories: tarmac-based road disciplines and off road. Within each of these disciplines, there are usually sub-groups.

Giacomo Agostini (born 16 June 1942) is an Italian multi-time world champion Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Nicknamed Ago, he is the all-time leader in victories in motorcycle Grand Prix history.

Agostini was born in Lovere, in Lombardy, the son of a wealthy, Italian industrialist. His father originally didn't approve of his son's motorcycle racing career. He did everything he could to persuade his son not to race. Agostini would have to steal away to compete, first in hill climb events and then in road racing.

Eventually his father came to terms with his racing and he won the 1963 Italian 175cc championship aboard a Morini. He got his break when Morini factory rider, Tarquinio Provini left the team to ride for Benelli. Count Alfonso Morini hired the young Agostini to ride for him. In 1964, Agostini would win the Italian 350cc title and proved his ability by finishing fourth in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

May 2008

May 11 - Noriyuki Haga won race two of the 2008 Monza Superbike World Championship round. He finished just 0.009secs ahead of 2nd place Max Neukirchner, 3rd place Ryuichi Kiyonari finished just 0.051secs behind the race winner.[1]
May 11 - Fabien Foret took his first win of the 2008 Supersport World Championship season in round five at Monza. Josh Brookes was 2nd and Broc Parkes 3rd.[2]
May 11 - Max Neukirchner took his first Superbike World Championship win during race one at Monza. Noriyuki Haga was 2nd and Troy Bayliss 3rd.[3]

April 2008

April 13 - Simone Corsi took his second win in a row in the 125cc race at at the Portuguese Grand Prix. Joan Olive was second and Nico Terol third.[4]
April 13 - Jorge Lorenzo took his debut MotoGP victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix ahead of Dani Pedrosa and team-mate Valentino Rossi.[5]
April 13 - Alvaro Bautista won the 250cc race of Portuguese Grand Prix. Marco Simoncelli finished second 0.013secs ahead of Mika Kallio.[6]
April 06 - Noriyuki Haga won race two of the 2008 Valencia Superbike World Championship round. championship leader Troy Bayliss finished 2nd and Carlos Checa finished 3rd.[7]
April 06 - Joan Lascorz has taken his first Supersport World Championship win, and the 2008 Supersport World Championship lead, in front of his home fans at the 2008 Valencia Supersport World Championship round. Fabien Foret finished 2nd and Craig Jones 3rd.[8]
April 06 - Lorenzo Lanzi won race one of the 2008 Valencia Superbike World Championship round after Carlos Checa took himself and race leader Max Neukirchner out at the very final turn of the race. Troy Bayliss finished 2nd and Troy Corser 3rd.[9]
