Martyrs' Day is a syrian national holiday commemorating the Syrian nationalists excuted in Damascus on May 6, 1916 by Jamal Pasha, the ottoman wali. They were executed in the Marjeh Square in Damascus. It has since then been renamed to Martyrs' Square.

Commemoration
Traditionally, in this day the President pays his respect by visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
