Colorado Portal

Colorado is one of the 50 states of the United States and is located in the Rocky Mountain region. The Continental Divide stretches across the crest of the Rocky Mountains. The state has more mountain peaks with an elevation of more than 4,000 meters (13,123 ft) than Alaska. While generally thought only to be a mountainous state, Colorado also has a considerable portion of flat and open land on the Eastern Plains. Admitted into the union on August 1, 1876, Colorado became the 38th state. Ranked 8th in total land area, it is only 22nd in population. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the 2007 population was 4,861,515, but the population density is only 41.5 person per sq mile.
